The Village Inn, hotel in Thropton

Offering a garden and sea view, The Village Inn is situated in Longframlington, 19 km from Alnwick Castle and 41 km from Northumbria University.

Pub with friendly and helpful staff. Bed was comfortable, room was quiet and the heavy curtain kept out the light nicely, so we had a good night's sleep. Had a nice dinner of steak frites and a drop of decent local ale. Breakfast is provided in the cafe across the road, and it was good. Very good value for money.

Revisited this accommodation , for a quiet break. Three Wheats Heads never lets us down( 6th or 7th visit) . Situated in a quiet village, but easy access into Rothbury to ' mooch around'. This is a great base for cycling, walking and generally good base for any on route stops whilst visiting historical Northumberland. Rooms comfy, food lovely both evening meals and breakfasts great choices. Large portions re food , nobody could complain about being 'short-changed ' with quantities. Deserts are delicious. Nice outdoor area with a fab view . Staff friendly and helpful. Parking is great .

The location in an AONB was fabulous.

The location in an AONB was fabulous. It felt like a safari for Briitish Wildlife. A young deer used to visit us after supper! Local shops and resources were excellent. Easy trips to Holy Island, Alnick, beaches and boat trips to The Farne Islands.

Thropton is fairly close to home for us, but an hour's drive on dark nights is not always our choice - hence a stay. Our choice is walking the River Coquet, but the Northumberland Coast is fairly close, as is Hadrian's Wall Country and Kielder Forest not to mention Rothbury only a Mile or so away with Cragside a worthwhile visit.

Thropton is a small Northumberland village— ideal for exploring countryside and coast as well as National Trust properties including nearby Cragside. There is a bus service to Rothbury, Morpeth, Newcastle and Alnwick ( for Alnwick Gardens) if you fancy a rest from driving.

Busy Saturday evening and had to wait and move around to get safe parking space. The staff did mention that it was their busiest day that year. Food was excellent , very large portions and cooked well. Breakfast was good also with the waitress providing great service. Rooms were very good and nice and quiet considering we were above a pub. Beer garden super with beautiful views.

This pub is definitely not 4 Star.

This pub is definitely not 4 Star. Although evening food was to a good standard, the website menu was much broader than what was actually available. Restaurant had no atmosphere whatsoever. The accommodation is very poor. The bathrooms are very outdated and in desperate need of renovation. Our second room (had to move due to broken shower) had a damp bathroom and the toilet seat was so worn it was down to bare wood in places and quite frankly disgusting. One of the toiletries provided was almost empty, so this means it was "used", not good in any circumstances but definitely not during COVID. There is no way that these rooms are worth the £110 a night we paid. Extremely overpriced. No luxury at all.
