We were heading off to complete the nc500 on motorbike and used Ullapool as a starting point ,so in this respect it provides all you need before you set off. Just remember to charge your phone if traveling by bike as you may need it to arrange recovery as I had to do. Please ensure you prepare for all eventualities as the weather in the North of Scotland changes frequently.

Ullapool is a very pretty small town but the most important thing about it is the ferry to Stornoway. I think it is telling that if you research things to do in Ullapool, searches return visiting Inverness or visiting the stone circles on the Hebrides.
I stayed at Ullapool as a stopover on the way to the Outer Hebrides. Having driven for nine hours to get there, it was excellent for a leisurely walk along the seafront, a couple of drinks in the Arch Inn (from a beer point of view the best pub I found), dinner and an overnight stay before catching the ferry the next morning.
There was mention in Ullapool of a golf course but not being a golfer I did not research this.
Ullapool has a Tesco which is very helpful for last minute provisions.

Perfect place in May before the midgies are out and about.
Perfect place in May before the midgies are out and about. There are plenty places to eat but early booking is needed if you are not to be left with awkward times. Within easy distances of some spectacular scenery - atmospheric in the mist or beautiful in the sun.

Great little spot with good vibes.
Great little spot with good vibes. The town itself is small but the whole area had a buzz about it. The scenery is amazing. I would definitely visit again. It helped that it was 27 degrees and the sun was shining.

Ullapool is on the route of the famous Route NC500.
Ullapool is on the route of the famous Route NC500. It's the perfect one night stop on the route. Ullapool is quaint, small, full of gift shops and the stunning "seaford" restaurant where I can highly recommend their fish and chips! Lovely little town - easy to walk around, you don't need to stay longer than the one night stop as the adventure of the NC500 continues!

Ullapool was cute and the views over the water special.
Ullapool was cute and the views over the water special. Interesting watching the ferries leave and come in from the islands. We were very lucky when we were there as the sun was shining and it was warm.
Quite a nice hotel, with beautiful views across the harbour to the town of Ullapool. Parking onsite. Lovely lounge area downstairs where you can sit and have a drink while watching the harbour, and breakfast is also served in a room downstairs, from a menu not buffet style. Unfortunately they don’t serve dinner, so you do need to venture into the town. It was raining while we were there, so we drove in as it’s a little way for walking, especially if raining. Nice hotel and we would stay again.
The perfect place.
Tucked away off the road out of Ullapool, its the perfect spot to relax for a few days or a quick stop on the NC500.
Owners were great, rooms are clean and some serious OCD touches (toilet paper folded, all the complimentary shampoo/moisturiser bottles facing the same way, everything in line.
Never stayed in such a perfectly presented hotel.
Super super clean.
Breakfast in the morning was perfect and the views of the Loch while you eat are to die for.
The staff were friendly the breakfast was great especially considering it was included in the room price. Considering it is rated as a 2 star hotel, it is pretty much what you'd expect. Rooms were adequate, everything worked, shower was fine. At that price and 2 stars it's not going to be super luxury so don't expect too much and you won't be disappointed. We were stopping for a night on route to another destination and it served it's purpose as a stopover.
As described Ardlair is a really well appointed B&B, with wonderful views over Loch Broom.
The room was very clean and glamorous on a par with a 4 star hotel. Due to current COVID restrictions there wasnt a breakfast available but there was an option for a continental meal and plenty of breakfast snacks and coffees. I loved the wee decanter of whisky, much needed after a long drive.
Thank you for a great place to base our break in Ullapool.
The Arch Inn is situated on the loch side in Ullapool. We had a very pleasant and recently modernized room with great views out across the loch. The staff were very welcoming and helpful. The Inn does have a very busy bar and restaurant so be sure to book if you want a table just as soon as you arrive. The food in the restaurant was excellent and reasonably priced. The breakfast is also plentiful and very good.
I wound up here because the hotel for the rest of the family did not have sufficient accommodation. Ullapool is small and fills up quickly during the prime summer season. I was close, so that is the great news. My room was "clean" and my bed comfortable, so that's the good part. I opted for b'fast with the family, so can't comment there. I had limited staff interaction.
Comfortable/clean room. While we didn't meet the hosts in person, they made it easy for us to check-in ourselves. The room was comfortable and clean. Good WiFi and parking was onsite. There was a nice view from the room toward the bay. It was about a 5 minute drive into Ullapool from the B&B - a bit too far to walk in the dark in November (would have been 30 minutes).
The guy who was working when we checked in was amazing he made us feel right at home, the real fire in the bar was lovely and we enjoyed the live music, our wee dog was made to feel at home too. Although the kitchen was closed you could go across the road to the sister hotel which had lovely food and was again dog 🐶 friendly. Would stay here again 😁
The location was okay, with a 15 minute walk into Ullapool. Ullapool itself was rather uninviting, perhaps due to roadworks on the main road, very overpriced e.g £19.99 for fish and chips.
The hotel was very clean and the duvet was particularly soft and comfortable. There was lots of choices of teas and coffees in the room and welcome treats.
Booked several weeks ago the reviews were not good . But wow ! the hotel has had a make over and was very impressive. The rooms were very well appointed , the food in the Restaurant delicious . Delightful staff , ready to help nothing was too much . The location in Ullapool fantastic right in the town . Definitely will go again good value .
Nice, large, comfortable room. Comfortable seating. Large comfortable bed with down duvet. Quiet. Very nice hosts. Access to common room with fireplace. Absolutely delicious breakfast selections, highlighting award winning products from the area. Walking distance from everything in Ullapool. Easy, free parking. Would stay again.
Very friendly and warm greeting on arrival. Unfortunately couldn’t be allocated rooms close together due to upgrading hotel still ongoing but rooms very clean and comfortable plus breakfast was exceptionally good. Would recommend staying.
The hotel is a 2/3 minute walk from the Main Street of Ullapool which is a pleasant walk through town, The choice of breakfast food was excellent and will cover most people’s need, and the staff were excellent
On the edge of Ullapool, near to the ferry terminal, the room was comfortable and clean, with easy access to the top Road at the back of the hotel to get our dog in and out without disturbing other guests.
The room was comfy, modern and clean. The shower was amazing, hot and good pressure. There was parking right outside the hotel and staff was lovely. The breakfast room overlooked Ullapool harbour.
Location was excellent at one end of Ullapool so you could walk the length of the small town easily. We had dinner and breakfast in the hotel, both of which were very tasty and excellent service
Lovely guest house conveniently located close to the centre of Ullapool. Spacious, comfortable rooms with plenty of plug sockets and charging stations. Very nice breakfast.
The location is perfect. The hotel is located on the main street and has a restaurant on site that serves fresh seafood. The room was large and comfortable.
