B&B The Silver Eel, hotel in Strokestown

Peacefully located on a harbor 5 minutes driver outside the town of Strokestown, B&B The Silver Eel offers a restaurant and a bar.

We have been in Ireland for a week now. This is by far the BEST stay we have had yet. Both owners are extremely personable and pleasant to deal with. They take great pride in their bed and breakfast. It was so nice to not worry about searching for a meal. The food was absolutely amazing! We will definitely come back to this bed and breakfast.

Strokestown is a very quiet town and apart from Strokestown...

Strokestown is a very quiet town and apart from Strokestown Park House and the National Famine Museum has little else for the average tourist. It is however ideally located just west of the Shannon in the Irish Midlands and is an excellent touring base. Its appeal is its quiet air and relaxed laid back nature with a couple of pleasant local pubs. There are a couple of nice eateries with a Chinese restaurant and the Percy French Hotel.

Strokestown is a pleasant but small village in Co.

Strokestown is a pleasant but small village in Co. Roscommon in the Irish Midlands.. There are a range of facilities including SuperValu & SPAR supermarkets which have a good range of what you would expect to find. Basically the village is four roads intersecting at a roundabout. The shortest of these roads leads to Strokestown Park. The house there is the National Famine Museum but it was closed during our visit. The gardens were open and we wandered around these. They are quite pleasant but the grass badly needed cutting and gave a neglected feel. Eating out was disappointing - we tried a hotel and a Chinese establishment offered all you could eat for a fixed price (on the night we went). Both were mediocre. There are some takeaways and the couple we used were OK. To visit you really need a car although there are bus services but no railway. Twenty minutes away is the town of Longford, much bigger & far more facilities. It has a railway station which we used for a day excursion to Dublin. Also nearby is the riverside town of Carrick on Shannon and the substantial ruins of Boyle Abbey.

My stay in strokestown was to meet family members I have not...

My stay in strokestown was to meet family members I have not seen for a while so the Hotel location was ideal for me and my family to meet and socialise. There is lots of local historic information around the town and was recommended the Famine experience/walk but ran out of time, however I went to the location and will definitly visit on my next trip. if your in the town and you need anything the locals are very friendly and think nothing of going out of the way to help in any way possible. the town itself is neat and tidy and you will feel safe to walk around. you will need to utilise a car even though there is public transport, its very limited and you will have to really organise your travel to acheive what you might want to do.

Lovely, homely place with everything you could want. Lovely extra touches with tea, coffee, milk etc. Plenty of towels, comfortable bed and great pillows. Very secure, easy to follow instructions for key box and plenty of parking both on the premises and on the road outside. A little gem in Strokestown beside shops and the fabulous Strokestown House. Plenty of walking and cycling on the National Famine Way which starts at Strokestown House and goes all the way to Dublin following the Royal canal. Looking forward to returning😎

Martina was both professional and lovely even coming out late at night to meet me off the bus. Also communicated as much as necessary. Large and spotless apartment, one of two in a really nice house. The fruit, oatcakes, nuts and water were all appreciated. Great location (with five airport buses a day) and value. Would be ideal for a couple or family with car or cyclists as is in a part of the country that reflects Ireland way better than the cities and larger towns.

Had a room overlooking the river with a large shared balcony, liked the fact boats can moor up and stay overnight and use the facilities. large car park, big enough for a or 3 motorhome to stay over, an interesting menu selection, not just the usual stuff. Rooms are above the pub but never heard a thing even with window open. Located 2 miles from Strokestown, perfect halfway stop to Dublin.

Marilyn was easygoing and helpful, and made check-in super convenient and flexible, as I was unsure how my plans were going to go. Quiet stay with not a peep heard from others even though it was a full house. Perfect price for a simple, clean accommodation. Next to a beautiful archway leading into the Strokestown Park House and gardens. Great location just off the main road.

Lovely, clean, bright & warm apartment, with everything you could need. Lots of little extras, fresh fruit, tea/coffee and a bottle of milk in the fridge. Great value. Oh, and it's the 2nd widest street in Ireland! Great walks nearby in Strokestown Park, and the National Famine Museum.
