Right on the shore of Lake Como, opposite Urio Pier, Hotel Orso Bruno is a 20-minute drive from Como. Rooms are simply furnished and some overlook either the mountains or the lake.

Hotel Orso Bruno exceeded our high expectations. It's location is brilliant, literally less than fifty metres in front of the small pier that the ferry boats pull into. The views over the lake from the restaurant are breathtaking.
The staff are wonderful and could not do enough for us, Antonia even drove us down the lake to catch another ferry when the one that was due into Urio was unexpectedly cancelled due to an engine fault.
We ate in their restaurant every night and the food was superb as were the staff, all of whom were very engaging, warm and professional.
The hotel was very clean and our room had everything we needed including tea and coffee making facilities in our room which unfortunately many continental hotels do not provide.
We would book Hotel Bruno again without hesitation and probably will do!

People need to be aware of the complicated mode of transport...
People need to be aware of the complicated mode of transport to arrive from the airport to the hotel unless you hire a car or get a taxi which is 175 euros each way. Airport shuttle bus which only leaves 1 per hour and takes 25-30 minutes to get to Milan central station. Then a train to Como San Giovanni train station which takes 40 minutes and leaves every hour. Then either a bus which takes 30-40 minutes depending on traffic and departures are sporadic or the ferry which is a good 15-20 minute walk from the station and takes 44 minutes but those departures are not frequent in any way shape or form. Carate Urio is not very walkable. The street is narrow and very busy. There are limited transit options, with the city bus and boat taxi running at long intervals. Taxis are not easy to obtain due to local ordinances. However, there are a handful of restaurants nearby that are very nice, and the people were all very friendly and helpful.

This also means that the hotel has lakefront views from some of the rooms and the dining area. The rooms were very spacious and modern, and the staff were incredibly helpful and friendly. They always answered our questions and for breakfast even remembered our favorites. This was the best hotel my wife and I stayed at during our two-week trip through Italy. This was just a stopover to break up a long drive home (with 2 kids in the car) so it fit the bill. The view of Lake Como was accessible to us (just across the road) and it was beautiful. You could catch a ferry ride from right next door! We weren't able to enjoy their restaurant as it was closed that day. Good parking that could accommodate our large car (with reservation in advance).

I reserved parking at hotel and glad I did. The garage is small but for my peace of mind about the car, it was great. The staff were very nice and spoke English, as we did not speak Italian.
