The onsen was so beautiful as well as the surrounding area. Especially the private onsen, such an unforgettable experience. We had a very big and comfortable room. The food was also very good.

囲炉裏つき古民家を丸ごと貸し切り「月夜見山荘」(庭にBBQグリル完成!), hotel in Hayakawa

Boasting mountain views, 囲炉裏つき古民家を丸ごと貸し切り「月夜見山荘」(庭にBBQグリル完成!) features accommodation with a garden and a terrace, around 48 km from Lake Shojiko.

Actually booked this place by accident. I thought i had booked Nishiyama Onsen Keiunkan. When i showed up to the hotel I thought i had booked, it was more elegant, and honestly more uppity than i was expecting. I sensed they were put off by my excited kids, and knew we'd be walking on eggshells the whole time. So i wasnt super upset when we learned I had accidentally booked another place 18 km away! I had been corresponding with the hotel operator by email, who seemed pleasant enough, but I hadn't the first clue what kind of place i had actually booked. So we were beyond excited when we arrived to find, what to my foreign eyes seemed like an absolutely authentic traditional japanese home. It looked like a movie set. The owner showed us around the property, then he went home. The kids and I high-fived! We got the traditional setting we had wanted, but we could relax alone on a mountainside. The setting is a tad rustic. I loved that about the place. Heating is by woodburning stove that you feed yourself (electric space heaters there as well). There is a full kitchen there, and what we didnt know ahead of time, is that there is primitive outdoor grilling/cooking facilities. That made a few confusing exchanges with the property operator suddenly make sense. Although it sounded in other reviews that possibly the property owner provided meat to be grilled, we had been asked to bring our own food. We didnt understand that that meant grillable items. But anyway, we loved the place. It would be perfect for a large group of 7, possibly more, to stay for more than one day and get big preplanned meals going on the woodfired grill.

Temple Hotel 岸之坊, hotel in Hayakawa

Situated in Minobu, within 38 km of Lake Shojiko and 45 km of Lake Saiko, Temple Hotel 岸之坊 features accommodation with a garden and free WiFi throughout the property as well as free private parking...

Wonderful stay at this temple, outside of time. My room was spacious and very beautiful, right next to the prayer room of the temple. The futon was comfortable and the food really good both at dinner and breakfast. The priest welcomed me and walked me to the tomb of the master of Minobu, and also helped me to explain how to participate in the morning prayers at the main hall. I wish I could have stayed there for a few days.

This was an outstanding experience. The chief priest and his family are amazing. The rooms are big and spacious, the food is very good. Minobu as an area is so beautiful, with large mountains covered with green cedartrees and nestled in between are all the important temples. The chief priest did an astounishing work in introducing us to the buddhist practices. The walk to the morning prayer, 04:45 in the morning is very very rewarding.

Temple Lodging Shukubo Kakurinbo, hotel in Hayakawa

Situated 37 km from Lake Shojiko, Temple Lodging Shukubo Kakurinbo offers 2-star accommodation in Minobu and features a garden.

+ Amazing location, Minobu. It is a lovely and peaceful place surrounded by nature and home to many beautiful temples and shrines, such as Kuonji Temple (side note: they have an early morning service you are welcome to attend). + Great place to stay with its tatami floorings, the beautifully crafted kimonos that hang on the walls and a little gift shop. + Friendly staff that went above and beyond to make me feel welcome. Kakurinbo are known for being popular with international visitors and I know why. + They offer many facilities such as their bath infused with wine essence, drinks from their fridge (which you would pay at check-out), and, for a price, opportunities such as wearing one of their kimonos. + A fabulous dinner and breakfast that is based on Buddhist cuisine, and which is explained to you by the staff.

Offering magnificent views of Mount Fuji and Lake Shoji in every room, Shoji Mount Hotel features 2 large public baths, which are open 24 hours. Kawaguchiko Station is a 35-minute drive away.

Everything was perfect. The room is super clean and in the traditional Japanese style which I loved. Very cozy and comfortable. I was lucky enough to see Mt. Fuji on a clear day and the view from the room was priceless. The staff was very nice, friendly and professional. I also liked that the area wasn’t touristy at all, I could enjoy the view at the lake without a crowd. Highly recommend this hotel!

My trip was mostly there to see the onsen and how it held to its reputation - which it did and then some. The staff took much pains to ensure that the food, service, and all amenities were well explained.
