Excellent location. Not far from Fukuoka and we drive all the way from the airport within 2 hours. Best retreat so far and we will definitely go back in different seasons. Driving to places are simple and easy. Can go to mountain hike or the lake areas.

A very lovely town.
A very lovely town.
But too many tourists during the weekend.
Too many Korean tourists, which quite some of them are lack of manners, speaking too too loudly, taking pictures everywhere, dominating the roads while walking with groups...

Yufu is one of those places where the place itself is wonderful but the vibe from other tourists and angry, upset staff members in shops can really darken an otherwise bright experience. It reminded me a lot of Kyoto in that way. The place, the shops, the scenery are all great... but tourists tend to be pushy, demanding, selfish, etc. And this leads many of the staff of establishments to be cold, distant, or upset; and rightfully so. I would like to go back there and spend more time at one of the inns. The staff there are usually very kind and helpful, and the spaces are very comfortable. But the place itself I could take a pass on.

We stay in Yufuin for 2 days, but travel 1 day to Beppu and the other in Yufuin. Yufuin is an absolutely lovely place. Every thing is so cute! And a lot of street food along the way.
The best thing is Onsen Ryokan! Don't miss to enjoy traditional Japanese style accommodation.
The thing I don't like here is that shops mostly close around 5PM, staff (both in hotel and shop) don't really speak English. They will try to explain to you, but in Japanese TT Also, trash bins are hard to find along the street.
I really enjoy the accommodation here, and the city is just too cute. You can take photos in almost every corner. This city is a MUST!

Yufu is not a big town and that is the beauty of this place.
Yufu is not a big town and that is the beauty of this place. The main shopping street Yunotubo is cosy and easy to stroll. There are many good cafes along the way. We enjoyed very much cafe Pepper and Anahata. Watch out for unusual snow that blocked the highway from Hakata to Yufuin. Otherwise it is easy to get to.

The traditional Japanese dinner is incredible!
The traditional Japanese dinner is incredible! I like Japanese food and the food we had there is definitely the best ever. The traditional Japanese breakfast was great too.
Location is good too.
We plan to come back next year with more family members!
1) location - just a few mins drive from the Floral Village, and within walking distance to the train station.
2) parking - available parking space in front of the hotel. Free.
3) onsen - there are a few for men and ladies.
4) breakfast - delicious. Must order their dinner in advance. Limited restaurants around the area and they close early.
5) staff - very helpful and courteous, though limited English. Helped us to call to a few restaurants for our dinner, because we didn't book our dinner at their place,in advance.
Very nice place, out of the main town area so very quiet, but only about 15-20min or so walk into town to restaurants. Room was comfortable and bookable private onsens very nice too. Host happy to let guests use a large lounge and kitchen/dining area, so if you don't want to eat out every night, can bring food back to eat at the hotel. Host also very helpful and drove us down to town a number of times.
I didn't eat breakfast here. As for the location of the accommodation, I'm not sure how much because I have my own car, but if traveling by train, you have to drag your own luggage. It may be a bit of a walk.
There is an onsen outside the hotel that is very nice to use, but the weather was too cold. It's a shame we didn't use it.
There are free bathing equipment available to use.
Free parking
Though the guesthouse is not right by the Yufuin station, the host kindly offered to pick up and drop off on our day of arrival and departure, so the whole check-in and check-out process was super smooth. The host is super helpful and easy to communicate. The guesthouse is very clean and cozy with shared kitchen. The private onsen is a bonus which far exceeded our expectations.
The reception lady is wonderful - greeted us with a big smile, explained the onsen, room and facilities, offered welcome drink, and then walked us to our room. Private onsen in-room is a bonus, so relaxing! Breakfast is also good with nice variety of food. Overall we had a very memorable stay!
Away from the very busy Street of Yufuin but still very near, we love how peaceful the place is. The food preparation was "superb" and exceeded our expectations. The staff were very accommodating and the Onsens are perfect after a day of walking.
The Ryokan is beautiful everywhere. Loved the private onsen and the space in our room.
Food was served in a private room at the dining area.
Parking was easy, staff helped us with the luggage all the way. Best to drive there.
We booked a villa with private onsen and it doesn’t disappoint. The 2 level villa was beautifully decorated with a terrace that faces Mt Yufu in full splendour of sun set. the same view is possible from the private onsen.
Great experience with traditional Japan living conditions with tatami rooms, super clean, nice environment, private Onsen, comfortable bed, spacious room, and a very nice host who shared all the info before our arrival.
The location to walk around the charming streets of Yufuin is perfect. I didn't realise the bathrooms are shared, but private and actually very very nice onsen style bathrooms.
Loved the private onsen inside our room, it had the best view of the mountains. The food was amazing and I was able to experience japanese culture at its finest in this hotel.
The room is spacious. Breakfast is good. The hotel owner is super friendly. The hotel is nice with toilet on each room and shared bathroom and onsen but very private.
