Unfortunate with the weather, rained 90% in 8 days, however the whitewashed walls and decor of the villa together with mountainous views kept spirits high. Slightly misleading with the photos is that you are unable to view the pool from the accommodation- look at the villa as an annexe (substantial at that) with the main house in between pool and annexe. The owners were away whilst we were there and weather bad so beautiful infinity / jacuzzi pool never used, however I get the impression this area would possibly not be accessible if the owners were present or at worse case -shared - best to check beforehand - most helpful hosts. Many beautiful ornaments within villa and stairs down to underbuild / snug would not be suitable for young children.

I'm Portuguese therefore I know all the country and to me Guimarães is, along with Porto, the most beautiful city in my country! It's historical centre is magnificent! The castle, the palace, Largo da Oliveira and the surrounding streets and historical buildings make us feel like we are in the middle ages! It's truly magical!

Historic Center is good with lots of restaurants and courtyards. The cable car to the top of the mountain is a must do. It is 7.5 euros return. Residents take a lot of pride in their city. Most of the tourists are Portueguese . Prices are less than in the Algarve. Appears to be great bus service, but everything within walking distance.

Guimarães is an acient town where Portugal originated.
Guimarães is an acient town where Portugal originated. It is quite small. It's enough for the Visitors who don't have any specific plans to spend 1 whole day to see all the most important historical sites in this city.

Some locals call it "The Heart of Portugal" because what became the country of Portugal began it's fight for liberation from Moorish Occupation here. The castle from then is still standing and is currently undergoing extensive renovation. The old city center is nicely preserved and is very walkable. Regional food is hearty and very tasty. While it is touristy, it is also a university city. Pretty lively with a good range of affordability in eating, staying, and shopping.

Guimaraes was a lovely historical town with a lot to see...
Guimaraes was a lovely historical town with a lot to see just walking around - historical churches, lots of restaurants and pretty sites. We went to Citania de Briterios (2,000 year old Celtic village) - a short drive away - and loved it. We could have spent longer here.
Great location in the historic area. Had to park our car in an off-site garage because cars not allowed in the area. Hotel directed us and made it easy. Very reasonable price. Buffet breakfast was very good. There was an option for eggs made to order, but we we wanted to get on the road early so we didn't take advantage of that. Dinner at the HOOL restaurant was very good and weather was perfect for eating outdoors. Only downside was a large group of many smoking cigars (maybe allowing that it standard in Portugal, but not in the U.S.).
The location next to the train station and bus stops for the buses to and from historic Guimaraes, it's also a reasonable walk, if you don't mind the climb on the way back! The staff in the hotel are very polite and helpful, the rooms are a bit dated but everything works and is well maintained. Breakfast is good with a range of cheese, meat, bread and pastries. There are a restaurant and a cafe either side of the hotel and a few metres walk away another bar and restaurant. I thought the hotel was good value for money too.
The hotel is in the centre of Guimaraes and in a historical building. The room is spacious, well equipped and comfortable. The price is reasonable. Staff are helpful. I can feel everyone of them is trying to do their best. The staff will explain the attractions with a paper map (although at the end I still google I still appreciate his willingness to help). The breakfast is served not in a buffet style (so I have been asked many questions to make decision/choices in the early morning:)).
Everything, really. Antonio is a wonderful host. Clearly takes care of the apartment, it had every amenity we needed, was super clean and had a lot of space. Free parking was a relief as well. His recommendations about what to see in town, restaurants, etc. were also helpful. Very responsive to questions/communicates quickly.
If you have a group and visiting Guimaraes, definitely stay there, you won't regret it.
Casa do Juncal was one of the highlights of the trip - a beautiful small hotel in the heart of the historic district. The young woman who greeted us couldn't have been nicer or more helpful. She went out of her way to help us find a restaurant for lunch, and she also prepared an excellent breakfast the next morning. We felt like we were staying in our own wonderful house in Guimaraes
Wonderful place in a beautiful historic setting. Spacious room, modern bathroom, comfortable beds, incredibly big towels. One of the best breakfasts every. Wonderful dinner. Wonderful wine from the farm and tasting. Extremely helpful and friendly staff. Garri the dog was also fun. Plush greens and super pool. Near to interesting places Guimarães, Braga, Ponte de Lima ...
The room was sparkling clean and cute. The bed was incredibly comfortable, and the bathroom was like new. The WIFI and air conditioner worked well. The air conditioner was basically silent. The location of the hotel is in a picturesque square, and it's an easy walk to many highlights of Guimaraes. The staff were kind.
The location is ideal. The street is quiet, staff extremely kind, and value incredible! The accommodations are BASIC, but it's one of the most restful hotels in Portugal. Do yourself a favor and check it out. Make sure you ask the staff about a local parish's philosophy behind running the hotel.
well designed studio, very confortable, we just loved it. easy and warm communication with Carlos, the tenant. located at few minutes walking to the historic town which is amazing. Guimaraes is definitely a stop to do in Portugal at least for one day.
The hotel was in a wonderful location. staff helpful and courteous. The only issue was there was some type of flying insect that was in our room, particularly the bathroom that made us uncomfortable. The room was spacious and comfortable otherwise.
We had a lovely time in Guimaraes. Our room was clean and we had everything we needed. Fatima greeted us with a smile and was able to answer all of the questions. The location was perfect for strolling around the old part of town.
The Location was Perfect. Near to Grocery shop, coffee shops and tourist places. We had a big room and comforble bed.Very clean with fridge and kettle. Price is excellent for a last minute booking. I highly recommend this hotel.
Beautiful, grand property, on a hill above Guimaraes. Only downside was getting into town to eat dinner. You have to have a car if you plan to stay here. it was well worth going out of town to get there though.
The staff was very nice. Comfortable hotel, just 10 minutes walk to the city center, nice private parking. Breakfast has good of variety of food and the bar by night is not expensive with a relaxing atmosphere
It is a very nice, newly built hotel close to the university. Excellent for us attending a conference there. Very friendly staff, great breakfast. About 20 minutes walk to the old town of Guimaraes.
Great room, brand new furniture and equipments. Hotel is located in the contryside, less than 10 min from Guimaraes' downtown, in a very chill and calm area. The swimming pool is small but beautiful!
It is a perfect place for traveling around to Guimaraes, Braga and Oporto. Quiet, authentic and cozy.
The breakfast is good.
The owners are wonderful people always willing to help.
