This was a quick stopover, so we didn't get time to visit many of the sights in the area - a two night stop would have been better, so we could have spent a day exploring Canyon de Chelly National Monument.

Canyon de Chelly is one of the most beautiful canyons in the Southwest. It has a special quality to it that's hard to capture with words. I would call it transcendent. It doesn't attract the hordes of tourists that the Grand Canyon does, so you can really find a quiet place along the rims and feel one with Mother Earth and the ancient ones. A visit there is restorative.

Go and see the sights!
Go and see the sights! We have yet to take a guided tour but, we will on our next trip. The scenery is breathtaking, insightful and humbling. So many different locations to drive and explore on your own. I recommend the Thunderbird Lodge for food, although Junction is delicious, Thunderbird was the group favorite. Be respectful of the wonderful people who live and work here. It is beautiful but it will only stay that way if the visitors (like myself and fellow travelers) don't mess it up.

The Canyon de Chelly is absolutely stunning. Mesmerizing. I have to admit that I was ignorant of the history of the Navajo and it was an eye opening experience to learn what happened there. We hope to return when we can take a tour of the canyon floor. Not much going on restaurant wise in Chinle but the Basha's grocery store has a good selection.

I have been all over Arizona and I believe this area is THE most spectacular! The views, every where you look are breathtaking. So many old ruins to explore, caves to enter and history to learn. Visiting here is like a trip back in time, before people threw trash everywhere.

Canyon de Chelly is better than I expected, although many of the rim drive (north and south forks) were closed and the information available through the National Park Sevice in cooperation with the Navajo nation management was non-existent, never updated to reflect partial closures. That said, the property itself was almost devoid guests, and we rather enjoyed the privacy and quiet that a very lightly occupied property afforded. Chinle itself has little to offer, but the canyon itself is fascinating and invites much more exploration and time than our two day allotment allowed. This is off the beaten path, and hopefully will stay that way.
Having stayed at BW motels across the country dozens of times over the past 40 years, I'm aware the company has been raising its standards. And its prices. I'm not entirely on board with the concept of the price rises exceeding the quality increases. I did enjoy the very roomy space, the high quality sheets, the easy access and reliable WiFi. I DID like Best Western for many years. (Note the Question: "What DID you like?")
Breakfast was etc,, stayed for 3 nights and did not see room service at all, Restaurant is run seperate, very native Indian menu was basic but good.
Walked out of the restaurant when dark and nearly walked into a white horse roaming around the carpark, there were 3 other white horses there.
Very old and inconfortable room!! The bed felt as if it could fell apart every second. Very dark and unplaisant room.
The “restaurant “ at the hotel is a nightmare!! Very expensive and disgusting food.
Thank God the staff was so nice and we were able to cancel 1 night free of charge
There is a restaurant in the hotel parking lot that was great! Not many food options in Chinle but this restaurant had the market cornered for locals and tourists - FYI get there early before 6 pm because it is popular. Clean big hotel room really close to Canyon de Chelly.
It was comfortable, clean and the room was beautifully decorated. It had more than I expected, with a coffee pot, microwave, etc., not just a little fridge. Nice amenities. The nearby restaurant had great food, plentiful portions and was an amazing value.
Convenient stop-over whilst visiting National Parks in the area. Room and bed comfortable, with table and two chairs. Shower good. Plenty of parking. Restaurant on site, but separate from hotel itself.
I liked everything about ThunderBird Lodge. History, Preserved, Cleanliness, Courtesy, Welcoming, helpfulness from ALL Staff. I liked the good native style quality tasteful foods there, too.
We were in 9 different hotels/motels on this trip and this was an unexpected pleasure! People were very friendly, large place, clean & room rooms with a nice restaurant on the premises.
The location of the lodge is great for Canyon de Chelly--and the area is beautiful The rooms were basic--clean and had comfortable beds.
Good restaurants are scarce in this area.
The hotel was fine, bathroom was the smallest I have ever seen which was a problem with 3 ladies. No Free Breakfast. Had a stray Cat enter our room in the morning.
The breakfast at the hotel restaurant was very good. We ate there both days--great service too. The location was perfect for visiting the National Monument.
