Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

We need a good place to stay that was quiet and clean, we had an early start for the Fred Whitton Challenge so a good nights sleep was a must. Room was spotless and bed very comfortable. Evening meal on Saturday was very good, will use again.

United KingdomBedroom floor wasn't carpeted which is OK and trendy but a few shoes/footsteps from above being heard. That's the only small gripe I would have.

United KingdomWe were in the family room. A little noisy as when we were trying to get the children to sleep. Noise of a washing machine and noise of the bar. This is just due to the location of the room.
Nice little hotel with everything we needed for an overnight stay as a family

United KingdomThere was no milk in room. On asking and being told someone would bring some up, I had to ask again after no one came after half an hour. Very annoying. I think the toilet may be broken too in room 9 as there was a water refilling noise all night long which meant we hardly slept. The main TV also wouldn't show live TV. Needs a lamp in the kids room.
Lovely location. Ideal for stop over on way to Scotland. Nicely decorated. Good size. Ideal having a separate kids room.

United KingdomThese are more personal preference and constructive feedback. There were no decaf tea bags but the chocolates were a nice touch! The room was a bit light for me when all the lights were off so maybe some blackout curtains would be good. We stayed in room 1 and there's a little step into the room which I tripped over as the carpet is stripey so the step blends in so it might be worth putting a sign on the wall just to let people know. It might be worth putting some instructions about how to use the shower too as it's not obvious and before coming I'd read a few reviews saying the showers were cold but they're not you just have to turn the handle all the way and wait a minute or two. The shower is nice and powerful but the water level did get quite high and I was worried about it leaking so wasn't the most relaxing shower as I was rushing, think the drain might just need a clean to fix that. The final thing which was the most concerning and we mentioned before we left was that we had 3 massive blue bottles come from our bathroom (we think they could have come through the vent) we came in december and it was cold and wet so a bit unusual for that time of year to get blue bottles so it might mean that something is rotting somewhere close (altho there was no bad smell) we thought maybe someone's left some dog food somewhere as we know it's a dog friendly hotel and we had a dog next to us which was not an issue it was just the blue bottles that were the concern.
If I could give 9 and a half I would! The hotel was absolutely lovely, really nice decor, very friendly and helpful staff, lots of amenities and the food was brilliant (we had a roast on a Friday evening and it was one of the best we'd ever had!) I would happily stay here again.

United KingdomWe liked the place very much. Although, not a problem for us - there are only stairs to get to the rooms. This might be an accessibility issue for someone else.
The location is very suitable for driving and is just next to the main road leading to Kendal. The hotel is situated next to a farm shop and surrounded by green pastures. The staff are very friendly, and pets are welcome. The restaurant is amazing, and source local produce for the food and beverages.

United KingdomNot a fault of the hotel itself but we had a family sitting outside in the corridor and the children kept knocking on our door and trying to open the handle. We could hear them very clearly as well.
The hotel was lovely, it was only a short drive away from Kendal and Windermere. The room was spacious and very cosy. The staff were exceptional and very informative, they even helped us to find a bonfire we could go to.

United KingdomThe Gateway Inn/Hotel needs to include the name Plumgarths Roundabout in its address, otherwise Google Maps takes you to a site in a lane in Stavely a few miles away!!! Asking directions in the rain on a dark night is no fun! Booking.com PLEASE NOTE!!

United KingdomThe smoke alarm went off at 7.00 am, everyone in their rooms went out to car park in their pyjamas. There were no staff on site, to check everyone was out and safe. Some guests tried to call the out of hours number, on contact details, this was not answered. The guests were waiting outside for 30 minutes before a fire engine came. The firemen were quite alarmed, that no staff were on site. When staff came to work at 8.00am, they apologised, for the inconvenience, but it did spoil our stay.
We didn't have breakfast.
