I Love Rio Hostel

Positive section of review
The overall vibe of the place was very chill and the other people staying there were quite outgoing, interesting, and colourful. I mingled with other happy-go-lucky travellers from practically all over the world. The rooms were somewhat crowded, rather messy, and hot during the day. Also, there were only three toilets and two showers for probably more than twenty people. Yet, for ten euros a night, I have no right to complain, right? Talk about great value for money. The staff, including the adorable baby monkey Chico, were incredibly amiable, cheerful, and helpful. Pro tip: there is a vast selection of delicious street food in the nearby square.

Always be on your guard. The neighbourhood is downright unsafe, even dangerous at night: there is a favela right up the street, and there has been a history of robbery and violence in and around the area. No wonder almost every yard has a high fence with barbed wire on top. Do not drink the water from the faucet. To switch from cold to hot water and vice versa in the shower, you have to turn the shower head.

Awesome food (really, really awesome for an all inclusive). Excellent wifi, gardening, cleanliness, staff, top shelf beverages, beautiful views... There's always someone around to help.

A possession of my was stolen from my bag in my room, likely from a member of the staff that was there at the time I put it away. There was often no running water upstairs No AC in the room. The bed was very small and uncomfortable. It was very unclean. The neighborhood is very bad.

During my stay, I encountered several issues that significantly impacted my experience: The bed sheets were dirty. The air conditioning in the bedroom did not cool the room adequately. The air conditioning in the living room stopped working during my stay. The fan in the living room was not functioning. The water in the bathroom ran out for the last two days of my stay. Towels and toilet paper were limited, and I had to purchase additional toilet paper. There was no soap, shampoo, or conditioner provided. Additionally, our experience was further marred by a homophobic resident of the building who insulted and threatened us. Given these numerous issues, I would never recommend this place to anyone.

Checkin process was a mess and actually where things started going sideways, it's a hotel but the room I booked is private owned, reception had a hard time explaining me as I never have told about this in the booking process,.it's clearly stating hotel room. Reception said they should have owner permission to let me in the room but owner was not answering phone, resulting in 5 people waiting for around 30min till the owner give permission, it was bizarre. Finally, ad says this hotes is 4,5 starts which is a joke, the common installations are OK only bit far away of a 4,5 stars. Room is very simple with improvised beds, bottom of the bed are different size than mattress not properly supporting the mattress during the night of you move yourself when sleeping. Towels are all old and very rough on touch - again,.it fair behind an even 4stars rated hotel. At some point we called reception for bath soap and again they said it's a private rental property and you have to deal with the owner only, I heard it when parking the car, when checking in the coffee with was inculed in my reservation This is not a 4,5 starts hotel anywhere in the globe!
